Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  • Reveal proficiency in current BLS skills and concepts
  • Demonstrate proper function and use of BLS teaching equipments
  • Teach a BLS course using the video instruction and lesson maps
  • Demonstrate ability allow students to practice BLS while watching the video
  • Demonstrate ability to evaluate students fairly and provide appropriate remediation if needed
  • Understand and perform defibrillation and transcutaneous pacing
  • Use testing materials to conduct skills testing
Requirements for Instructor Candidates: For successful completion of the instructor course, instructor candidates must
  • Have current AHA provider status in BLS and be proficient in all the skills of this discipline
  • Successfully complete the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials online module (www.onlineaha.org) for which you will have to pay to AHA, online with credit card and print the completion certificate.
  • Successfully complete the AHA BLS one day classroom Instructor Course at TACT. The candidates will be given a workbook which is designed to help the Instructor Candidate to learn and remember the most important information from the instructor course.
  • There will be an instructor course exam at the end of the day.
  • Successfully be monitored teaching their first course within 6 months of completing the AHA BLS classroom Instructor Course (can require additional monitoring if needed)

Target Audience: American Heart Association BLS providers who would like to become instructors for Basic Life Support Provider Course
