 PREAMBLE : Prior to the launch of the computer-aided design (CAD) software all designing was done manually. Any type of design or prototype was meticulously drawn; this was time-consuming and often a costly trial and error process.

With the dawn of the CAD software the traditional drawing board has been replaced by most designers. CAD- Rhinoceros 3D is used across multiple industries such as Automotive, Fashion, Jewellery, Interior Design, Landscaping. It's also used to design consumer electronics, furniture, circuit boards, jewelry, theater and movie sets.

Such versatility across varied industries ensures the longevity and necessity of CAD software in today's technology-driven world.

OBJECTIVE : To introduce students to the Rhinoceros software and teach them how the pencil can be replaced by the mouse.Thus enabling the students to design three dimensional lifestyle products, accessories and jewellery models.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES : Student can take up a job with any organization as a CAD Designer. Depending upon each one's aptitude, experience and ability to market themselves, one can even move up to head the CAD/CAM department. Also, after gathering enough experience in the industry, one can start freelancing in CAD, start their CAD/CAM designing studio or become a CAD/CAM instructor in a training institute.

Since this software is used across multiple industries one can find employment in Lifestyle product designing companies, jewellery industry, footwear and eyewear industry, marble sculpting industry and many more.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE - This programme starts with the introduction to the software and basic commands. Thus letting one understand what two dimensional drawing is. Followed by assignments to asses student's progress.

• Next is introduction to basic solid part making thus introducing 3D modeling.
• Understanding plan elevation and section of an object.
• Introduction to surfacing commands which helps to create 3D models.
• Followed by 3D assignments to assess student's progress.
• Then is introduction to transform commands which enables to boost the speed of work and pattern objects.
• Introduction to different types of diamond settings and method to set diamonds on a 3d model.
• Followed by 3D assignments with diamond setting to assess student's progress.
• Linking and hinges, Renderings and Presentations.
• Final project where the students have to choose a theme and make their own design using the software to make three dimensional model. Enabling a student to make three dimensional models which can be bought into reality through 3D printers.
• Also making them capable enough to showcase their work step by step.

So this software inculcates the idea of 3D designing not only in jewellery but also for lifestyle products and accessories It allows to design anything one wants.
