Workshop on Mechanical Engineering for Non-Mechanical Engineers

This course provides non-mechanical engineers and other professionals with an introduction into the core subject areas of mechanical engineering. Engineering as a profession is becoming increasingly multi-disciplinary, and is also combining with other professions. People can find themselves working with mechanical engineers, without understanding the technical language or the key engineering principles.

This course focuses on the traditional mechanical engineering subject areas. It covers design, statics (stationary objects), dynamics (things that move), fluids (gases and liquids) and other general subjects. The theory covers the terminology and the basic laws that underpin each topic. A better understanding of the precise use of terms can help improve communication with mechanical engineers, and participation in mechanical engineering projects. For example, we discuss the difference between ‘gauge’ and ‘absolute’ pressure, and why that matters.

This course covers a broad range of mechanical engineering subjects. The subjects are explained with examples of engineering applications, with a range of exercises to enhance understanding and support learning. Comprehensive references are provided for participants who would like to further their learning on any specific topic in further detail.

A graduate of MBA from University of Lagos, He is a Registered Engineer in Nigeria with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN Reg. Number 11149).  Ola is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management; Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Management; and Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Purchasing & Supply Management Engr. Ola Popoola has over 31 years of post-graduate engineering & management experience exercised at various levels of responsibility in the oil and gas industry in the areas of: Petroleum Refinery Plants’ Operations & Process Troubleshooting , Project Engineering/Project Management, Plant Reliability Studies & Implementation, Process Engineering, Contract Logistics and material handling, Offshore Oil and Gas Maintenance Operations, Shipping and Terminal Management. Former Group Technical Manager of Aeromaritime Group of Companies, Nigeria. Former Contract & Business Development Manager at GAC, Nigeria with dedicated responsibility for Joint Ventures Oil & Gas Process Design, Implementation & Innovation in the FPSO Operations. Former Maintenance/Production /SHE Engineer at Shell Petroleum Development Company, Western Operation, in Warri. Worked in various capacities as maintenance engineer/manager in Atlantic Textile Manufacturing Company, Ilupeju, Nigerian Hoechst Plc, Ikeja and Nigerian Textile Mills, Ikeja

Coren Cert.)  MBA.  A result oriented professional mechanical engineer with over eighteen years’ industry experience in the field of maintenance of rotary equipment, supervision and inspection of the installation, modification and commissioning of mechanical systems in an industrial concern. Have a proven track record of ensuring optimal availability and reliability of mechanical systems. Engr. Fagbenro has worked as production manager, operation manager and maintenance engineer in both Engineering service and manufacturing companies such as Dangote Industries Ltd, Ricky Adex & Co. Ltd, and Atlantic Textile Manufacturing Co. Ltd. Engr. Fagbenro is the Deputy General Manager Projects, Dangote Sugar Refinery Company Plc.  He will bring his wealth of experience to bear on our programs.
